Caring for CXC Jewelry

CXC creations are made with metals that if taken care of will last for years to come. To keep your jewel in the best condition, we offer you a series of tips for the correct care of your jewelry:

Silver Plated Jewelry:
Exposure to light, air, humidity, air conditioning, and the pH of some skin types, causes silver to darken. This is normal with fine plated jewelry.

We recommend avoiding going to the beach or swimming pools with jewelry on and always taking them off to sleep. Creams and perfumes can also damage them, so we advise avoiding direct contact with these substances.

When cleaning, we suggest using a silver chamois cloth. Be careful if the jewel also has leather, crystals or other materials as these require other care. We do not recommend liquid jewelry cleaner as it can eventually strip the silver.

Gold Plated Jewelry:
As with silver plated jewelry, exposure to light, air, humidity, air conditioning, light bulbs and PH can damage it. If the jewel has lost its original color, you will only have to wash it with warm water and a neutral soap and dry it with a soft cloth. Be careful if the jewel also has leather, crystals or other materials as these require other care. If the jewel has leather, be very careful not to get it wet or stain it when cleaning the metal part.

Leather:
Our leather is manufactured using a vegetable tanning process. Exposure to light, air and spotlights naturally darkens leather. Water and liquids can damage the jewel staining it as if it were a piece of cloth.

We do not recommend using specialized cleaners in the case of leather, but if you decide on this option do a test first on the back of the piece.

At CXC we recommend using the jewel until the color of the leather ages naturally and uniformly. For those who prefer the leather to darken quickly, they can carefully spread any moisturizer on the surface of the piece. This process will immediately darken it as if it had already undergone a natural aging procedure, giving it a uniform color. From this moment on, the leather must be hydrated regularly so that it remains soft and flexible. This recommendation applies to all dark leathers.

Crystals and Glass:
We recommend using a soft cloth slightly dampened in water to clean the parts of the jewel that contain crystals and glass.

Conservation:
Always keep in a wooden drawer, jewelry box or a closed box. Avoiding direct light, humidity, and air will help keep your jewelry in good condition. To avoid humidity in the drawers, we recommend placing silica salts (silica gel) inside them. (CXC TIP: you can reuse the packets of silica salts that you will find inside some medicine tubes and put them inside your jewelry box).

We recommend not exposing jewelry to baking soda or chemicals, not even those used for cleaning jewelry, as they can alter the color of the jewelry and damage other organic parts of it, such as leather and wood.

Due to the characteristics of the metallic components, never force the parts of the jewel or try to bend them since they can cause irreversible breakage and deformation.
